CGI have developed an Oracle-based, generic insurance application to handle all aspects of insurance for insurance companies. The system is customised to the exact requirements of each client. One of their client implementation projects was suffering due to the poor performance of the application. By redesigning and rewriting some components, we were able to improve performance by up to 60% in some cases.RSA Insurance Group
One project at RSA we were involved with was an Oracle data warehouse used for reporting on the long-term profitability of commercial insurance polices sold to cover gradually developing diseases. The monthly refresh of the data warehouse was a largely manual process run by a team of developers and dbas that took a week of elapsed time. We were asked to analyse the problems and provide a solution. By optimising and automating the monthly refresh we were able to reduce the elapsed time from a week to a week-end eliminate the need for any manual intervention unless there was an error, thereby releasing the developers and dbas for other, more valuable tasks.
